A variant of a 'Bradel' German Binding with a rounded back, made in Quarter Leather Cover.
Often described as the quintessential German binding structure, this binding is precise and adaptable to allow for the use of different covering materials on the spine and boards.
Be introduced to making a book with a luxurious leather spine, complete with beautiful decorative marbled paper. This course provides you with all the techniques needed for refining and practicing these skills.
Over one intensive day you will learn how to make a German Hardbound book, covered with a leather spine, with marbled papers. We shall use artist grade papers, finished in hardcover with your choice of specialty leather and beautiful decorative papers.
Materials can be included, or you can supply your own.
If you are sourcing materials yourself, you can use what is suggested below for ease.
Materials received from us shall have all papers cut to size, ready to go.
Tools you will need:
A paper cutting knife (straight-blade)
Materials you will need:
32 sheets A4 (at least 150gsm) paper short grain, folds down to A5
Glue stick or PVA (minimal)
Decorated Paper at least A3 size
Book board 2.35mm thick at least A3 size
Magazines for waste paper

This is a technical workshop. The workshop requires a certain level of capability and confidence in using sharp instruments and being able to follow verbal instructions is expected.
No refunds for Online workshops once commenced. A Zoom link shall be sent out to you a few days before. We shall start gathering students 10 minutes before the workshop. Lateness shall not be accommodated.
