Continuing from our Beginner's Course:
Bind 2 Essential Books in one day

The case binding is a way of making books whereby the cover (the case) is made separately from the text block and then attached to it. This course is designed to provide a good working knowledge of materials and techniques for a novice or beginner binder.

You will develop skills in both the production and design of handmade books enabling you to go onto more complex and experimental bindings.

Over one intensive day you will learn how to make:
i) A Straight-back Case Binding, covered in full cloth with beautiful Marbled end papers.

ii) A Rounded-spine Case Binding, covered with a cloth spine and beautiful marbled paper.

• This course is for anyone with an interest in hand binding. It is a very thorough course providing essential skills that will take you through your whole binding journey.
• A great refresher course for those who have learnt binding elsewhere or wish to pursue bookbinding again after a break.
• Traditional book structures are explored, using materials that will endure over time.
• You will get to use a variety of tools and materials, and learn how to apply them to the sewing and construction of your book.

Time: 9.30am - 4.30pm

All materials and tools are supplied at the Bindery, along with self-serve tea, coffee and biscuits.

Please note, the workshop requires good hand-eye co-ordination, fine motor skills and cutting with sharp knife, students must have capability and confidence with this. You should be able to follow verbal instructions and health and safety information. Have basic numeracy to do accurate measurements and calculations.
