Master a full Traditional Fine Binding in this advance class.
This is an intensive workshop, which will teach Fine Binding techniques, including preparing a book for the application of a full piece of leather to the cover.
You will be taught a series of progressive steps that are designed to provide good working knowledge of traditional binding, materials and techniques.
Over two days you will learn how to make:
A full leather binding with marbled end papers. Finish the book with traditional Blind and Gold tooling.
• Focus on techniques known as rounding and backing
• Sew a multi-sectioned book on cords with a sewing frame
• Create raised bands
• Work with a leather paring knife
• Be introduced to blind and Gold tooling
Time: 9.30am - 4.00pm
All materials and tools are supplied at the Bindery, along with self-serve tea, coffee and biscuits.
Please note, the workshop requires good hand-eye co-ordination, fine motor skills and cutting with sharp knife, students must have capability and confidence with this. You should be able to follow verbal instructions and health and safety information. Have basic numeracy to do accurate measurements and calculations.

Holding deposit confirms your place and are non-refundable. Should you change your mind, it is transferable within 12 months onto another course or in credit for materials and tools. You will receive an invoice for the rest of the amount owing 2 weeks before the commencement of class.
