Join me for a second series of creative stitching. This week focus on gorgeous spine work - Japanese butterfly Stitch, Western butterfly Stitch, Ladder back Coptic. Celtic Weave, and an epic Greek Stitch! These are often complex and very beautiful stitches that are needed to build the spine of a book, used internally or externally.

You can join in for the whole week, to get into the rhythm of making, or pick and choose the days that suits you; though bear in mind every book leads you in skills from one stitch design to the next, building up to an epic finish on Friday.

Make decorative sewing a part of your binding expression and add visual drama to your one-of-a-kind books by incorporating the actual sewing of a book as part of its decoration. Twists, knots, linear patterning along the spine, braided stitching, or ribbons and leather tapes all contribute to your books uniqueness.

Whether you choose traditional sewing styles or interpret the techniques with a more modern twist, you will learn a wealth of powerful and fun decorative possibilities to add to your binding repertoire. These bindings offer challenges and inspiration for students at every level.

Each book shall start with a constructed hardcover, finished with decorative paper and our specially printed, William Morris Alphabet themed book cloth.

Each morning shall focus on a different sewn binding, you will make a variation of each model:
• (Monday) Japanese Butterfly
• (Tuesday) Western Butterfly
• (Wednesday) Ladder back Coptic
• (Thursday) Celtic Weave (Not available as a single class, one of the other must be taken before this one)
• (Friday) Greek Stitching (Not available as a single class, one of the other must be taken before this one)

Some stitches are subject to change. Why? Because we are committed to bringing you the very best class and if we think of something better in the meantime, you will get to make it.
