Making Books By Hand 1: School Years 6 - 9

In this unique workshop, students will embark on a magical journey to learn the art of bookbinding. Led by our friendly, expert teachers, they will explore the wonders of creating their very own books from scratch.

Workshop Activities: Students will gather around as our instructor introduces them to the fascinating world of bookbinding. They'll learn about different types of books and the tools used in bookbinding.

Choosing Materials: Next, it's time for everyone to unleash their creativity! They'll select their favourite materials, including colourful papers, sturdy cardstock, and decorative embellishments, to personalise their book covers.

Binding Techniques: With the guidance of our skilled instructors, children will master basic binding techniques such 3 and 5 holes pamphlet binding. They'll discover how to assemble their book pages and secure them within their beautifully crafted covers.

Decorating: Once the books are bound, it's time to add the finishing touches! Students will have a blast decorating their book covers with stamping and other embellishments to make their creations truly unique.

Show and Tell: Finally, children will have the opportunity to proudly showcase their masterpieces to the rest of the group. They can share their creative ideas and inspire others with their unique bookbinding creations.

In this workshop, every student is a budding bookbinder, ready to unleash their imagination and create something truly unique!

Please note:

  • Suitable for complete beginners, classes includes water, juice and snacks.

  • All materials and tools provided.

  • This is a technical workshop, anyone with enthusiasm for making books and sewing is welcome to join in. No experience is necessary, but the workshop requires the use of sharp instruments and being able to follow verbal instructions is expected.

  • Drop off is or the morning session is from 9am and pick up by 1pm.

  • Drop off for the afternoon session is from 1pm and pick up by 5pm.

  • If you have signed onto both classes, we will supervised an hour’s lunch from 12.30pm - 1.30pm. Please bring a nut-free packed lunch, drink bottle and hat as we shall be lunching at the nearby park.

  • Older students booked from age 16+ is welcome to make their own way for lunch and with consent from parents, is able to arrive and leave on their own accord. A text message shall be sent to parents on the student’s arrival and departure.
