Traditional Box- Making Course - 27th July 2025
Join our next class on the 27th July 2025
Time: 10am - 3pm
Cost: $300 full workshop or book individually for $120 per workshop
A practical and hands-on course for anyone keen to learn how to construct and cover traditional lidded boxes from scratch.
We’ll begin with the fundamentals: measuring and drawing up your box using sturdy boards, then move on to covering it beautifully in decorative paper. You’ll leave with three completed boxes and the confidence to carry on boxing at home.
Over the course of the day, we’ll explore three essential techniques and styles:
Box 1 - Traditional Gift Box – 10:00am to 11:30am
Box 2 - Flush-Lid Box – 11:45am to 1:15pm
Box 3 Cap-Lid Box – 1:30pm to 3:00pm
For those feeling brave (or simply box-mad), we might attempt to nest the boxes inside one another – a neat little challenge with very pleasing results.
This class also serves as a prerequisite for anyone wishing to join future box-making adventures, such as the Solander Clamshell Box or the Treasure Box classes.
Please Note:
This workshop is suitable for beginners with basic crafting, cutting, folding, and sewing skills.
While no prior bookbinding experience is required, this is a technical workshop, and participants should be comfortable using sharp instruments and able to follow verbal instructions.
Enthusiasm for bookmaking and sewing is essential, and a certain level of capability and confidence is expected.
Tea, coffee, and biscuits will be provided in abundance—because they’re essential!
All materials and tools will be supplied.
Please review our Terms and Conditions carefully before booking, as refunds are not permitted for change of mind.
