There’s nothing more elegant than a beautifully fitted slipcase, the perfect casing for a treasured book.
This practical, hands-on course is for anyone keen to learn how to construct and cover a traditional slipcase. We will begin with the fundamentals, measuring your book and drawing up the box before constructing it from sturdy boards. The case will then be covered beautifully in book cloth, adding ribbon details for a refined finish.
You’ll leave with a fully custom-made slipcase, perfectly fitted to your book and ready to protect it for years to come.
The class materials will be a combination of beautiful book cloth and ribbon to create a smart and elegant finish.
Please Note:
This workshop is not suitable for beginner bookbinders.
You are expected to have basic crafting, cutting, folding, and sewing skills.
While no prior bookbinding experience is required, this is a technical workshop, and participants should be comfortable using sharp instruments and able to follow verbal instructions.
Enthusiasm for bookmaking and sewing is essential, and a certain level of capability and confidence is expected.
Tea, coffee, and biscuits will be provided in abundance, because they’re essential!
All materials and tools will be supplied.
