Sewn Board BInding: Variation 1.01 - 8th March 2026
Join our next class on the 8th March 2026
Time: 10am - 1.30pm
Cost: $250 Full Fee, $150 Wild Binder Refresher
Join us at Owl & Lion Bindery for an exclusive Sewn-Board Binding; also known as ‘sketchbook binding’.
In this workshop, you'll explore the art of sewn-board binding, a relatively modern structure that allows books to open effortlessly along a lined spine. You’ll learn how to integrate the cover directly with the text block, resulting in a sleek and beautifully functional sketchbook that opens flat.
Using two contrasting specialty book cloths, you’ll create a luxurious cover for a watercolour paper book block (160gsm to 300gsm). We’ll use the drummed technique, which ensures a flawless, smooth finish with no visible joint between the cover and pages. The result? A sketchbook with both elegance and durability; ready to withstand your creative adventures.
Please note:
This class is not suitable for beginners. completing a Flat-back and/or round-back case-binding class is required to build foundational skills before joining this session.
Participants must be comfortable following verbal and visual instructions. If you’re unsure about your suitability, contact us at hello@owlandlion.com.
All materials and tools are provided, along with tea, coffee, and biscuits.
Please review our Terms and Conditions carefully before booking, as refunds are not available for change of mind.
