Letterpress Bookbinding Workshop With Leather (Private Class)
Two Days
Time: 10am - 4pm
Cost: $1100
This advanced two days workshop teaches you how to sew a book-block on sunken cords with a sewing frame, and then lacing the boards on. Unlike case-bindings, the boards are created with the book before the whole book is covered in leather and marbled paper. You will learn to pare leather to cover the spine and corners.
What You’ll Learn
Sewing Sections: Stitch sections onto cords to construct a strong book block.
Rounding and backing the Spine: Shape and strengthen your book block for a professional finish.
Leather Paring: Learn to pare leather for quarter-bound bookbinding (leather spine and corners).
Raised Bands: Add elegance with raised bands.
Blind Tooling: Master the intricate art of "running up a spine" (for advanced participants).
Important Information
This is a highly advance technical workshop that requires prior case-binding experience. Ideally, participants will have attended all our beginner classes, including those with leather and have been binding fro at least one year.
Participants must be comfortable following verbal and visual instructions. If you’re unsure about your suitability, contact us at hello@owlandlion.com.
All materials and tools.
Refreshments: tea, coffee, and biscuits.
Please read our Terms and Conditions before booking. Refunds are not available for changes of mind.
